There is a link towards the bottom of the email that will allow you to download the WPBackItUp Premium plugin. Just click the link and download the ZIP file to your PC. This zip file contains all the WPBackItUp Premium plugin files and will be used in the following steps. There is no need to unzip this file for most installs.
WPBackItUp Community Edition (CE)
If you are already running the WPBackItUp Community Edition(CE) then great! The WPBackItUp Community edition is the one found on WordPress.org, sometimes we call it WPBackItUp Lite. Now Click the Activate button to activate the plugin.
That's it, you now have the community edition of WPBackItUp installed and active on your site.
WPBackItUp Premium Edition
Installing via WordPress
Installing WPBackItUp Premium via WordPress is just like installing a normal plugin. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins → Add New.
From there you’ll see an option for Upload Plugin.
Using the file chooser, navigate to your computer files and select the ZIP file you received and downloaded when you purchased WPBackItUp Premium. This is the one we mentioned in the first step above.
Once it’s uploaded, click the “ Activate” link.
That's it, you now have WPBackItUp Premium installed and active on your site.
Installing via FTP
This portion of the instructions are for those people that want to install via FTP. If you used the WordPress installation instructions above then you can skip this step.
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. In order to use FTP you'll need a client program for your computer. Lifehacker has an excellent article on the best FTP programs for Mac and Windows.
Before uploading the plugin files you'll need to unzip the WPBackItUp Premium zip file. In OSX this is done by simply double clicking the zip file. In Windows right click on the zip file and choose Extract All. Both of these methods will create a new folder named wp-backitup-premium that contains all the plugin files.
Next connect to your server with your FTP program. Once connected you'll need to find the Document Root for your site. This simply means the folder where all of your WordPress files are. It's often called public_html or named the same as your site's domain name, but it could be anything. If you're unsure, please ask your host.
Once you know where your Document Root is, use your FTP program to navigate into wp-content/plugins/
. Then use your FTP program to upload the plugin folder(wp-backitup-premium) that was created when you unzipped the plugin file.
NOTE: make sure to upload the plugin folder, not the zip file. The zip file won't function on your site.
Once the folder is completely uploaded, your plugin will be listed on the WordPress plugins page, and you may click the Activate link next to it.
